Hey guys,
Today i watched a video by Mike Dillard about his journey in network marketing and he touched on the importance of copywriting. It truly is the basis for everything you do online. Writing blog posts, articles, scripting videos, sales pages, profiles, craigslist ads, and the list goes on and on!
So he decided to read over 100 books on copywriting and took his skill to a new level with his business. He says the most important thing is the ability to persuade people. Without it you can’t do much at all. This is what he learned….
People only do things for 2 reasons, regardless of what it is, it HAS to fit this criteria.
People only do things to avoid pain or acquire pleasure. It’s also important to know that avoiding pain is more powerful then acquiring pleasure.
So he was able to narrow copywriting down to 4 keys of ultimate persuasion. If your copy has these four keys than your possibilities are endless. Now be careful because these 4 keys are extremely powerful. They not only work in business but if you can find out how to implement them into your everyday life you can achieve anything…. Bargain the price down on your new car, get a raise, get a new date, the list goes on and on.
So here they are
- A Unique Benefit or Promise – People commonly refer to this as your edge or “x factor”. You see everyone on the internet is trying to get you to buy something or join some program. Having your own unique edge will make you stand out like white on black
- Factual Proof – You need to able to prove to people that what your doing is actually real. Especially these days when people have no trust and they think everything is a scam. A great way to do this is to use a video where you log into your merchant account or testimonials.
- Risk Free Offer – You have to assure the buyer that nothing is final. If they know that if they don’t like your copy than they will be WAY more opt to go for it. Whether that be an opting into a list or making a sale.
- Fear of loss – You have to make the buyer know that if they don’t take advantage of your offer they will loose out. Some great examples are putting a timer on the sales page or giving people a one time offer. This is an extremely powerful tool because it keeps the power in your hands. Your perceived value will go up if you don’t let everyone have your product.
Well guys that’s it. If you’re not already using these tips in your copy make sure you start. Persuasion is extremely powerful if done correctly.

Sensible advice, Matt. But if you can’t genuinely create a fear of loss – e.g. there IS no time-limited offer, etc. – using “exclusivity” instead is a good tactic. People like to feel they’re part of an Inner Circle.
Really like the graphic you used with this post. Nice to see one that’s great artwork being used, with the appropriate tongue-in-cheek humor – so many people seem to just splat the first graphic they find into their posts.
